“They can’t leave, and the profits all go to the slaveholder, to the owner of whatever is the economic enterprise.” How do people fall into slavery?

New Colonia has been at peace with the United States for twenty years following 150 years of fighting.Sheriff Marion in Redding will also recognize the player character as a Ranger, unlocking some additional dialogue options with him and making him accept them more quickly. One will be unable to receive any of the quest rewards if freeing the slaves prior to speaking to Elise and accepting the quest.Tobia also spoke to Maurice Middleberg, executive director of the NGO, Free the Slaves.Middleberg explained that the practice of slavery extends far beyond the tiny Indonesian island exposed by Mendoza and her colleagues.Twenty-one million people are currently victims of modern day slavery. Tobia, host of PBS News Hour’s newest podcast, “Shortwave,” recently reported on this horrifying practice, how it persists and the many ways it permeates modern life.

And most Americans use or consume products produced by slave labor — everything from pet food to sushi to cell phone parts–on a daily basis. Tobia spoke to Martha Mendoza, one of a team of AP reporters who uncovered a fishing business in Indonesia that relies on slave labor to net seafood that ends up in products, including Fancy Feast cat food, calamari and imitation crab. Their exodus took many routes: to the north; to the farms of relatives; to newly established African-American neighborhoods in Asheville and about; and back to the former slave-owners for jobs, sometimes as independents and sometimes as dependents. Many freed slaves have moved into jobs as tenant farmers, nurses and maids. In April 1865, according to George Robertson’s “A Small Boy’s Recollections of the Civil War,” “hundreds and hundreds of the freedmen and women and children” passed through Asheville at war’s end “in an almost interminable procession,” singing and shouting, bound for freedom. Before accepting the quest, Chosen One must not be a slaver and/or have low Karma (neutral Karma or higher required). When speaking to Elise, the Chosen must say that they don't want slavery. After agreeing to become affiliated with the Rangers, Elise will direct to free the slaves in the Bazaar area of NCR.The area is guarded by a gang of slavers so violence will be an inevitable necessity for the completion of this quest.
